As it was written, so shall it ever be:

Let’s have a good clean fight here. No holding, no low punches, no biting, gouging, or rabbit punches. You’ll break when I say break. And if you’re decked, you’ll get a count of ten to get back on your feet.

Decisions by the judges are final.

Comments

Accounts must have three comments approved before their comments go through without automatic moderation. Moderation may take as long as 24 hours. The site does not yet have any tripwires installed, which means moderators might need to be (though hopefully are not) more ruthless in banning accounts than they would otherwise be.

Also, don’t waste the moderators’ time. We’ve seen it all.

Tips and Tricks

1. The site uses the simple and rugged BUeditor instead of the complex and crashprone CKEditor, to which Drupal defaults. Hence, HTML tags are exposed when creating content and comments.

a) Hit return twice to create a new paragraph, as in WordPress (pre-Gutenberg, at least).

b) With HTML tagging, the key thing to remember — as in the Comment box below, where all the tags are visible on the handy toolbar — is what your mother always said: “If you open it, close it.”

For example, <em>if you open emphasis (italic), then close it </em>. (To have this happen automagically, select some text and then click the appropriate item on the toolbar.) Think of the “/” as the spring that closes a screen door. If it’s not present, you haven’t closed anything (and in that case, everything following the <em> tag will be in italic (as you sometimes see (and this is why))).

2. If you must use headings, these are the technically feasible sizes available. They’re not on the toolbar, so you have to type the tags in:

H2

H3

H4

H5
H6

H3 is for title articles, too big for use in the body of the text. Stick to H6 for that (unless you’re desperate to create some sort of outline structure).

3. The BUeditor also includes various conveniences for authors: Footnotes, sidenotes, TOCs, pulled quotes, and autolinked bible citations. In addition, titles are checked to avoid dupes, and properly cased.

4. You can also tag comments (see the harangue below the comment form). Play nice!

No.

And of course we won’t sell your account information to anyone.

Add new comment

You have the option to tag the comment. When you start typing in the "Comment Tags" field, a dropdown with existing tags will appear; use these if possible. You can create tags that do not appear in the dropdown, but please remember that this is a family blog.
